Vegan Options at Alamo Drafthouse

Alamo Drafthouse franchises can be found around the country, and the Twin Cities has a location in Woodbury. In poking around their website, it appears that nearly all have a separate vegan menu, or at least vegan options on their regular menu. They use a fun, B-movie themed decor, and they have comfortable reclining seats. There's a table for every two seats, and each person gets their own menu. You write down your order, display it in the rail at the edge of your table, and the servers will come around to take your order.

I recommend arriving at least twenty minutes early (doors open thirty minutes prior to showtime) so you can easily read the menu and likely receive your food before the movie starts. They offer beer, wine, and cocktails in addition to food. The vegan menu has solid options, but your bill can add up fast - just a heads up! The tickets themselves are $11 ($8 for matinees), and to make things more affordable, you and a friend could easily share an appetizer and an entree.

We started with the Buffalo Cauliflower which came out hot and crispy. The ranch is thick, so a little goes a long way. The buffalo flavor was solid but not overwhelming, and I would order them again.

My partner ordered the Beyond Burger, and neither of us felt like the value was right for $17. It was cooked well and came on a fresh ciabatta roll, accompanied by standard fries.

Update 12/25/19: The Tofu Sandwich is no longer on the menu.

I selected the Seared Tofu Sandwich which was a little spicy thanks to the sriracha soy aioli, and the filling-to-bread ratio was perfect. We both thought the first bite of each of our dishes was on the salty side, but our palates quickly adjusted. My sandwich was a little messy because of the aioli, so I had to be careful and intentional about eating it in the dark. I could have easily gotten aioli all over myself. The fries were a good mix of crunchy and mushy, but there was no way I could finish them all myself.

On my next visit, I would probably want to split the Buffalo Cauliflower and Seared Tofu Sandwich with my partner. I thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience, and it's a fun date night option. If you aren't interested in their vegan menu, there's a Crave next door which has awesome vegan options. Or, of course, you can just go and enjoy a movie.

For those who are curious, we saw Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and it was amazing. I can't recommend it enough!
