Midori's Floating World Cafe
If you're looking for a sushi fix, Midori's Floating World Cafe is a great spot. The restaurant is colorful and cheerful, and they have many vegan options. Dishes that are either vegan or can be made vegan are marked (VG), along with (GF*) for gluten sensitive dishes. Just let your server know when you order in case a dish needs to be modified.
Vegetable Gyoza
My favorite appetizer is the vegetable gyoza which comes with an amazing spicy dipping sauce. Pro-tip: keep any remaining sauce to use with the rest of your meal. They also have edamame, Agédashi tofu, spicy asparagus, and tempura vegetables for appetizers, along with a selection of cold dishes.
Fish-Free Sushi
On my most recent visit, I ordered the Sushi Garden dinner plate which comes with a couple different kinds of veggie sushi. I love how bright and fresh the veggies are. If you want to pick and choose your own rolls, they have a sheet that lists everything they offer so you can mark off what you'd like. Midori's also has a veggie tempura dinner plate, or you can get a bento box that comes with a combo of sushi and tempura.
Noodles, beverages, and more
You can get any of the noodle dishes made with shiitake broth, and the rice and buckwheat noodles are vegan. The Kitsuné was simple with just buckwheat noodles, Inari tofu, sea veggies and scallions. It's perfect for this time of year and will warm your insides right up.
Midori's has a large tea selection, and they serve alcohol including beer, wine, and sake. You can even get a sake cocktail! And there are two vegan dessert options: Daifuku which is red bean paste inside mochi rice, or banana wontons. I haven't tried either one because I've been too full by the time dessert comes around.
The hours are a little unusual, so be sure to check before you go. You can find some street parking along Minnehaha (and stop by Moon Palace Books while you're in the neighborhood which has yummy vegan pizza but I usually go to browse their used books upstairs), and there are meters along 27th Ave. I hope you can stop by Midori's soon to try out this cool little spot!
